DAYTIME DOCS at the NHFPL

Thursday, June 6th, 2019

11:00 AM – New Haven Free Public Library, Community Program Room, 133 Elm Street, New Haven (entrance on corner of Temple Street)

Battle for Brooklyn (Michael Galinsky, 2011) – 115min – an early film from one of NHdocs’ favorite documentarians

This New York Times Critics’ Pick follows the story of reluctant activist Daniel Goldstein as he struggles to save his home and community from being demolished to make way for a professional basketball arena and the densest real estate development in U.S. history. Along the way, he falls in love, gets married and starts a family while living in a vacated building located at the heart of the project site.

12:00 PM – Videotheque, New Haven Free Public Library, Philip Marrett room, 133 Elm Street, New Haven (use main entrance, take a left at the large information desk)

Balian (the Healer) (Daniel McGuire, 2017) – 85min – (Second chance screening, in case you missed it on Sunday, June 2nd)

BALIAN (The Healer) depicts the rise and fall of a traditional Balinese healer after being ‘discovered’ by Western tourists. A fable of globalization that Alan Berliner calls ‘a magical portrait of a one-of-a-kind Indonesian trickster/healer…It’s funny, too.”

2:30 PM – New Haven Free Public Library, Community Program Room, 133 Elm Street, New Haven (entrance on corner of Temple Street)
